Setting Up Your New Place

When we found out we were moving, our first instinct was to figure out what we were going to do with all of our stuff. We weren't sure how to cope with the amount of belongings that we had, so we started looking around for a storage facility in the new city that could help. After a brief search, we were able to find a facility that really worked well for what we needed. They were fantastic to work with, and we loved being able to have a spot where we could stash things. I wanted to create a new website dedicated to setting up a new home, so you know what you are up against.

Four Tips For Moving Safely During The Winter

Blog

While it may feel refreshing to move during the winter, it can also be dangerous. You may slip and fall due to the walkways being icy. Your possessions may get soaked and damaged as a result of the rain and snow. Plus, you need to take measures to ensure you are warm and safe due to the freezing temperatures and winter conditions that you are moving in. To make sure that your move goes as safe as possible, here are a few tips to help you prepare for your move.

Wear Shoes with Traction and Use Salt on Walkways

As you are walking with boxes in your arms, you want to ensure that you do not slip and fall on the snow and ice, which would risk damaging your belongings and injuring yourself. Therefore, you will want to have a good pair of winter shoes with solid traction on the bottom of them. It is also a good idea to use salt or traction mats on walkways if it is particularly icy so that you maintain solid footing when loading and loading the moving truck.

Protect the Floor with Towels and Mats

Ice, snow, and mud will cling to the bottom of your shoes, and as a result, you will track it all inside of your home. This may result in moisture damage and stains that may be hard to get out. Whether it is the house you are moving out of the one you are moving into, you do not want to damage your floors. The good news is that you can easily protect your floors with mats, rugs, and towels.

Cover Furniture and Boxes to Protect Against the Elements

If rain, hail, sleet, or snow is falling, you will want to ensure that you and your belongings are protected. You will likely put on a coat and/or poncho, but what about your boxes, furniture, and other belongings. Well, you can actually put a poncho on them as well. If the precipitation is not heavy, a towel can work well. Alternatively, if the precipitation is heavy, you may want to use a trash bag or tarp.

Get the Utilities Turned on at the New House Beforehand

During the winter, the last thing that you want to happen is to arrive at your new home and there may no utilities on. So, several weeks before moving day, make sure to contact the electricity, gas, and water companies to schedule the connection of your utilities. This will ensure that your home is ready for you when you arrive. You can also contact the internet and cable companies if you like.
